Big News Kind of Day

It's been definitely more than a few days since my last post. I have been a busy, busy beaver. Let me give you a typical breakdown of a standard weekday:

First: Coffee.
(Almost) Every morning my wonderful friend Eric has leftover coffee sitting in their crazy/high tech coffee machine. I get up around 8am, drink the delicious brew, and get ready for work. The coffee is Stumptown, which hands-down beats out most coffee providers. You should probably look it up and try some if it's in your area. It will probably change your life. Detroit-ers, think 'Chazzano'.

Next-First: Work.
My schedule for working remotely for the MACPA (the same employer that I left with in Michigan) is pretty great. I work from 8:30am-12:30pm (that is 11:30am-3:30pm Michigan time) and bust through as many emails as I can for two hours and train my replacement the next two hours. Using the webcam has been a blast, and I'm 100% sure I should use one more often once I get my own...the one I have now belongs to MACPA.

During Next-First: More Coffee
I usually need a re-fill during my training. Portland = Coffee.

Then: Job Hunt.
Whoa-whoa-we-whoa, the online process for applying for jobs is getting a little out of hand. I can tell you that, on average, it takes me 45 minutes to fill out an online application. I can see why it's good because it weeds out the impatient and technologically less-savvy people; but seriously? 45 minutes? The thing that gets me the most is when it asks for me to attach my resume - which has all of my work history that I want to share and the time frame that I worked there and what I did while working there - and then asks me to also fill in empty boxes with the same exact information. 100% of the time I want to leave it all blank since they can see all of the information on my resume, but I refrain.

During Then: Food.
Since the coffee is gone I need something to fill my stomach, and food is the next logical choice. The food, of course, is usually pretty healthy. Granola bars, toast and peanut butter, bananas, etc. Today, for example I had the leftover fillings from our fajita dinner last night. The meat was 'fake meat', but oh-so delicious, and today I scooped the leftover fillings with sliced green-pepper buckets. Think of it as if the green pepper where a tortilla chip and the fajita filling was the salsa. Amaze.

After: Job Hunt.
I should probably mention that this is pretty much never ending. Craigslist, the Newspaper, Linked-In, Google, Monster, Career Builder, Indeed, street walking...anybody have any other ideas??

After After: Dinner + Beer + Distractions.
While on the second leg of my job hunt. I usually would like to have a drink. When I say Portland = Coffee, I also mean Portland = Beer. The beer here is incredible. The distractions are also undeniable. Here are just a glimpse at some of the things that have been filling my day:
Rogue, one of the greatest Portland Breweries. Known for their Ales, and everything else they serve.

The views. Everywhere there is a great view.

Yes, that is a ping pong table in a bar. No, that is not Pitbull.  And no, I didn't beat Eric during our game :(
You may be wondering what the Big News Kind of Day title is all about? First, the sad news: Vidal Sassoon, the icon, legend, and originator of female hair-style passed away today :( He was 84 and has definitely left a long last legacy. Thanks to receiving a wonderful call from Mary today I learned a lot of great things about that man. The other big news, President Obama announced his positive support towards marriage equality for all humans! This is the first sitting President that has ever publicly announced this. I know there is still a long way to go until I can get married in any state, but this was at least a great step in the right direction :)

Have a great night.
