My First Day

Monday was my first full day in Portland, and it was so nice to already see family! My cousin Kristine just-so-happened to be visiting this lovely city at the same time as my move-in. How random is that? We visited this really cool bar called Clyde Common - attached to the Ace Hotel - and she got me a really cutsie book titled:
This is Portland
13 Essays About the City You've Heard You Should Like

Seeing her, hanging at Clyde's, and getting that book was a great way to bring in my first full day. Especially since all of my hours prior to meeting her were filled with job hunting, apartment shopping, and the overwhelming feeling of, "Holy sh*t, I just moved to Portland." It was nice to relax with family.

Clyde Common turned out to be incredibly sweet. The service was awesome and the drinks were good. It opened in 2007 as European Style tavern and it still serves the expectantly delicious food and drink. As it turned out, the guy who was our bartender was the actual manager, which I didn't find out until today (two days later) when I was in the waiting area of my job interview and opened up a magazine. He was showcased in the Portland Monthly Magazine because of his new carbonated cocktail which I happened to try that night after his recommendation. Prior to knowing that he was celebrity status in Portland during my outing with Kristine, I chatted with the man to find out what kind of drink I should try as their "signature" drink. In that moment I learned not only that these new carbonated beverages were delicious, but after secondly asking about job prospects he told me that "Clyde's is the kind of place where pretty much somebody needed to die in order for someone else to get a position"...I guess I won't be asking for jobs there.

I will definitely be back for a return visit to Clyde's because of the uniqueness and great drinks and service. I will also be definitely reading my Portland book soon and will update you about the "Things You've Heard You Should Like" as I read. The book looks like a promising fun read though; as I open up to a random page it simply says, "Portland has a sh*tload of beards".

Good night.
